Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre 2016
With over 300 stalls from all over the world, two stages of entertainment, a traditional funfair and plenty of free activities, Bury St Edmunds' 13th Annual Christmas Fayre should certainly not be missed.
The Angel Hill area of Bury St Edmunds, with its recently crowned cathedral, medieval Abbey Gate and links with Charles Dickens is the ideal setting for a traditional Christmas Fayre. Set alongside the town’s nearby cosmopolitan shopping centre with its great mix of famous name stores, independent shops, cosy cafés and restaurants galore, it's the perfect mix of festive joy.
This year, the Fayre will extend from the historic Angel Hill and Abbey Gardens to the modern Arc shopping centre and The Apex, transforming the town into a wonderful Christmas market. They'll be colourful stalls selling local produce and crafts, as well as traders from around the UK and mainland Europe, with traditional fairground rides and on-stage entertainment.
"The Thursday evening is a locals evening and not as busy as the other days. Thursdays are a great time to browse the stalls or take advantage of some great offers from our shops and restaurants. The Fayre is open until 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the evenings are a great time to visit and sample the atmosphere and wander around with a hot chocolate or something stronger! The entertainment and fairground will go on until these times and there will be lots of activities for children. Saturdays and lunchtimes can be particularly busy but offer a great atmosphere, with Sunday mornings more relaxed and a great time for browsers to visit" Sharon Fairweather, Market Development Officer.
In it's 13th year of trading, the Fayre continues to gain momentum and popularity, having previosuly featured on Buzzfeed's list of 39 Christmas Markets Across Europe To Visit and recently topping the vote for the UK's Best Christmas Market through Holiday Lettings.
So make sure to add the 24 – 27 November to your diary this year, with a wide range of events guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit. Starting with an opening night parade of over 100 local school children and a spectacular firework display, all the way through to a traditional carol service accompanied by the Salvation Army Band on the Sunday. Add in a mix of free children’s entertainment, real reindeer, Santa in his grotto, elves in their sorting office and cookery demonstrations with free tastings, you’ll be back for more the next day!
