Spring & Summer on the Saints

With the prospect of longer days and warmer weather it's a relief to be thinking about spending more time outside. Whether it's pottering in your own garden, or taking a stroll along our beautiful Waterfront. However can I recommend you take some time to discover some of the best kept secrets on the Saints, our small gardens and courtyards.

Many of our businesses have the prettiest and surprising gardens. Mauds Attic and Merchant House have been residents on the Saints for many years and at the end of April open up their courtyard garden for the summer season. A great location for some Spring inspiration for your garden or patio.

Last summer Applaud Coffee and Loveone joined forces and now share the gardens to the back of each business. This pretty alfresco space is a perfect haven to enjoy afternoon tea or an early morning latte. It's a real sun trap in the summer and a joy to sit amongst the herbs and roses.

Our neighbours at Cake and Catwalk have a fabulous open space, Lyn uses this to great effect in the summer, hosting fashion and music events.

For alfresco dining head further up into town, onto St Nicholas Street, and visit No 25 and K Bar. Both have the perfect courtyards for lunch or evening dining and drinking. Or enjoy a pint of real ale outside the Thomas Wolsey Pub, it's historic courtyard is regularly featured on guided walks through the town.

While some of our thoroughfares maybe narrow, you can take advantage of our pavement cafe at Valentino's, it's also great for lunch and dinner serving the very best fresh pasta. Soak up the atmosphere rubbing shoulders with one of Ipswich's famous sons, Thomas Wolsey cast in bronze.

Sitting in these small spaces gives you a very different perspective to life in town, and a chance to reflect on its heritage, look up we have some surprising rooftops!
