Salthouse Eaterie Extension
The Salthouse’s Eaterie, a 75 cover restaurant housed within the hotel, has long been one of the most popular destinations for diners across Ipswich and Suffolk and is now submitting a planning application for a striking design for an extension.
Building on the restaurant’s success, has encouraged owner Robert Gough to commission an extension to the restaurant which will provide an opportunity for guests to enjoy a panoramic view of the marina. 'We originally designed the restaurant to be the place to celebrate in Ipswich. Currently, we are in lobster season and are struggling to meet demand. The extension to the restaurant will enable us to add something new for guests to experience and cope with the demands for tables on our busiest nights’.
‘The Waterfront is the focal point of growth in the town with business, education and leisure crowded around one of the most attractive marinas in the country. We felt that this was the place for innovation and a bold statement of confidence in the future of Ipswich. The shape of the building is like a piece of origami which we think will look fantastic from the outside and create a dynamic and exciting space for diners inside’.
Architect Roger Gilles said ‘we are delighted that the Salthouse Harbour Hotel has decided to take this bold step. The Salthouse is on everyone’s ‘radar’ and already has a strong presence along the Waterfront but this idea for the new extension will bring this to another level’.
This continues the momentum for new investment in Ipswich as Terry Baxter, Chair of Ipswich Central comments: "It has been incredible to see the amount of investment that has been attracted by the Ipswich Vision initiative. The Salthouse is to be congratulated for the commitment they are showing to our town centre."
The innovative plans were also welcomed by Ipswich MP and Cabinet Minister Ben Gummer:
“I am delighted to see more investment by Robert Gough and his hotel group in our increasingly successful Waterfront. I am grateful for the energy and innovation that he has shown is bringing visitors and tourists to our town, spending money, employing more people, and helping to improve the local economy. I am delighted that he wants to build an innovative new restaurant which will be another jewel in the town’s crown. “
Robert Gough adds `There are exciting plans ahead for Ipswich and we are looking forward to playing our part in future success of the town and help develop Ipswich as a destination hub for the East.’
