Christmas on the Suffolk Coast

Celebrate the festive season this year on the Suffolk Coast. From Christmas markets to fine foods, there's something to suit all tastes at this special time of year.

Visit The Suffolk Coast during December and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to Christmas food and craft markets.

On 4th December, head to the market town of Woodbridge and peruse the stalls at the Mammoth Christmas Street Fair, where you will find seasonal gifts, local produce and food including roast chestnuts.

On 7th December, the pretty village of Wickham Market holds their festive market. Here you can stock up on meats, cheeses, breads, handmade baskets, wool and plants. Or head to Halesworth on the 10th December and the medieval marketplace where local artisans will be selling their fine fayre; Two Magpies Bakery with their Artisan breads, Dairy products from the equally famous Fen Farm Dairy, Game pies from Truly Traceable Pies, locally produced beer from the Opa Hays Brewery, Wines from Valley Farm Vineyard and lots more including specialised preserves, charcuterie, patisserie, cider and spirits.

If you would prefer to put your feet up and be waited on this Christmas, then a stay at the Salthouse Harbour in Ipswich or The Angel in Bury St Edmunds is the perfect option for you, with both being within suitable driving distance of the Suffolk Coast.

Sit back, relax and indulge a hearty breakfast and sumptuous Christmas food before heading out to explore. At the end of the day, head to your room for a peaceful night’s sleep, ready to explore the beautiful coastline on Boxing Day.

Locally roasted coffee from The Firestation Cafe, Bar & Coffee Roasters, wines, spirits and ales from Adnams, bread from Two Magpies Bakery, smoked fish and oysters from Pinney’s of Orford and fresh fruit and veg from Giddens & Thompson Greengrocers are just some of the fantastic foods you can take home with you to make a rather special Christmas feast.

If you would prefer to dine out, then book a table at one of The Suffolk Coast’s award-winning restaurants – serving delicious dishes made with locally-sourced produce. You and your family can tuck into a Christmas dinner or a Boxing Day buffet, taking the stress of cooking off your hands!

Southwold Pier is the perfect place to visit at any time of year, with many indoor attractions to keep all ages entertained! Find brilliantly original gifts and fabulous presents to fill your stockings, with both shops full of great ideas for him and her, as well as glittering decorations for festive homely cheer.

The arcades are family fun entertainment at its best, and the Under The Pier Show is unique collection of hand-built, utterly silly, totally potty machinery - perfect for this magical time of year!

What better way to walk off your Christmas lunch than with a brisk walk along the beach on Christmas day. Remember to pack your walking boots and binoculars to spot some of the UK's rare wildlife on your travels or if you’re brave enough, take a dip in the North Sea and take part in one of the many Christmas Day swims!

If Father Christmas treats you to the latest camera or smartphone, then a walk in the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is sure to provide you with that memorable shot.

Merry Christmas!
